A video has emerged on social media revealing some gun-wielding thugs firing sporadically at a registration centre in the ongoing nationwide registration exercise.
The incident believed to have taken place in Asunafo District of the Ahafo Region, left onlookers running for their lives while the main architects are seen firing and issuing threats as well as swear words.
It is immediately not known who the thugs were venting their spleen on while speaking ‘Hausa’ but it is gathered that the incident is related to some confusion that broke out at one of the centres following disagreements between members of the two main political parties.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of the Member of Parliament(MP) for Asunafo South, Hon Collins Dauda over his alleged involvement in some disturbances in the area.
A statement posted on the official page of the Ghana Police Service about the development reads In full “The Ghana Police Service has arrested the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, Hon. Alhaji Collins Dauda, for his alleged involvement in the disturbances which occurred at Kukuom in the Ahafo Region during the ongoing Limited Voter Registration Exercise, on Saturday 11th May 2024.
One person sustained an injury and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. Police are in pursuit of other suspects in connection with the incident”
The opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) has however in a statement distanced the lawmaker and former Minister for Works and Housing from the incident.
A statement issued and signed by the National Communications Officer of the NDC stated that” We wish to place on record that, at no point was the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, Hon. Collins Dauda present at the Kukuom registration center on Saturday, 11th May 2024. Contrary to the claim by the Ghana Police Service, Hon. Collins Dauda was busily monitoring the ongoing registration exercise in his Constituency, Asutifi South and was nowhere near the incident at Kukuom which is located in the Asunafo South constituency”
